 The Facebook Development team has been releasing updates recently, and it’s been hard for most Facebook users to keep up. The upcoming security update is actually a good move by Facebook, but Facebook Fan Page owners will need to check a few things to make sure their users can still view their content. As of October 1st, if you have any external content on your Facebook Fan Page, you will be required to obtain a Secure Socket Layers (SSL) Certificate in order for your users browsing on a secure connection (https://) to be able to see your content.
What is a SSL Certificate? Secure Socket Layers is a way to encrypt and protect user’s information sent to and from websites. If your website currently accepts credit cards as a form of payment, you probably already have a SSL Certificate. If not, it’s not a huge ordeal to buy SSL and add it to your site.
